Questions regarding safety, hygiene and how to take care of OrganiCup.

How do I clean OrganiCup?

During menstruation, simply rinse your OrganiCup with water when emptying the cup and before reinserting. You do not need to sterilize your cup between uses while you are menstruating.

You must sterilize your OrganiCup after your period:

  • Boil OrganiCup in a saucepan for 5-7 minutes.

If you do not have access to boiling water:

  • Use OrganiWipes, which are made specifically for disinfecting your cup when you do not have access to boiling water.

How do I remove staining / discoloration from my OrganiCup?

Discoloration of your OrganiCup is due to residual buildup from the blood and it is very normal. However, it is possible to make it look "like new" again with the following steps:

    • Buy 2% hydrogen peroxide either online or at your local pharmacy.

  • Mix 1/2 water and 1/2 hydrogen peroxide in a bowl. Put the cup in and leave it in the mixture overnight.

This should make your cup look almost like new.
Remember to clean it thoroughly before use.

How do I clean OrganiCup in public toilets?

When cleaning OrganiCup between uses, clean it with cold running water from the tap.

If you travel and do not have access to clean running water for a long time, be sure to bring some bottles of water with you or use a disinfectant cloth, such as an OrganiWipe.

If you do not have it, you can simply wipe it clean with toilet paper and clean it when you have access to a bathroom again.

How long can OrganiCup last?

The menstrual cup can be reused for years. After a little use, the cup can become a little colored or discolored - and that's fine.

Even if you replace your cup every three years, you will spend far less money than if you used disposable products, and you will save the environment a lot of waste!

Can I use OrganiCup with a spiral?

A question we get a lot! Therefore, we have consulted several gynecologists on the subject, and the short answer is: yes! However, as with any other gynecological concern, we recommend that you consult your doctor before using a menstrual cup with a IUD. Many OrganiCup users already use both OrganiCup and Spiral. However, there have been cases where a coil has been disturbed, probably due to usage problems or anatomical circumstances. In addition, 5% of IUDs will naturally be rejected by the body within the first 3 months after insertion. Should you decide to use OrganiCup in connection with your spiral, we recommend you; \ n
    • Wait at least 2 full cycles after the coil is inserted before using OrganiCup. This will give your spiral plenty of time to settle.

    • Make sure you break the vacuum before removing the OrganiCup.

  • Place the OrganiCup near the vaginal opening and as low as possible. You can also ask your gynecologist to shorten the coil string for you.

Can I get TSS using OrganiCup?

TSS is a rare but serious disease. TSS is a complication of bacterial infections that have been associated with people who have used intravaginal products (such as tampons and menstrual cups), but TSS is not exclusively associated with intravaginal contraceptives. To enter TSS, a person must have a special strain of staph bacteria (staphylococcus aureus) in their vaginal flora. If the individual has it, staph can multiply and produce a harmful toxin.

\ n

To reduce the risk of developing TSS, be sure to clean and use your OrganiCup according to our instructions. The symptoms of TSS are sudden fever, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, fainting, rash resembling a sunburn or in advanced stages, scaly skin. TSS can occur during the menstrual period or a few days later. If you experience any of these symptoms, remove your cup and seek medical attention immediately.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, remove your OrganiCup and seek medical advice immediately.

  • Acute high fever
  • Vomiting, diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Skin rash resembling sunburn
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Red eyes
  • Fainting

A study conducted in Lyon, France claimed that menstrual cups can pose an even greater risk of TSS than tampons.

We are aware of this study and we are obviously interested in their results. However, the investigation has not yet been completed.

Moreover, it was performed using sterile plastic bags - not actual human sheaths - and we think it is safe to assume that the human body is more complex than a bag.

The menstrual cup has been a trusted care product for decades. In fact, only 2 cases of TSS concerning menstrual cups have been reported globally and these are due to very prolonged use (longer than the recommended maximum of 12 hours).
We recommend the following steps to reduce the risk of developing TSS:

    • Sterilize your OrganiCup before using it for the first time. Remove your OrganiCup every 8-12 hours during your period and wash it thoroughly before reinserting it.

    • Do not use OrganiCup or other internal vaginal devices if you have previously been diagnosed with TSS

  • Wash your hands with soap every time you handle OrganiCup
